Week 3 - One Room Challenge
Updated: Nov 8, 2018
It's week 3 of the One Room Challenge, which means that we are officially at a big milestone - the halfway point. It's been crazy, and this room is beginning to take form! Several projects are underway and a bunch of fun packages arrive at my doorstep everyday - I mean, who doesn't like mail???
To start things off, the framing process for our three dimensional rock wall has begun. First step was finding a fun shape for this feature piece. I used painter's tape to lay out the proportions of each rock wall panel. Directly following that, we had to establish a good structure with 2x4 bracing into the studs. This would ensure a safe trek to bed each night!
We cut the asymmetrical shape out of a sheet of birch plywood and gave it a good sanding. I laid out the rock pulls and drilled the pilot holes before putting on a coat of clear matte polyurethane. I'm dying to show you a completed rockwall...but you're gonna have to wait for the big reveal on Nov 8th!!
In the meantime, you can see some behind the scenes shots of the process below.
While the framing was being installed, I had to keep myself busy with some creative toy storage. We have all scene the cubed toy storage, but I wanted to do something fresh and new that was outside the box.
I found mini trash cans and knew that I could put them to good use! I took them up a notch by installing caster wheels and added some colorful paint to keep the fun going! In the end, I can confidently say this was a win! Sidetone, I do not want to go up against these kiddos in a nerf war...I would surely lose.
Well, because I'm terrible with secrets, here is a bigger sneak peak of the rug and a cute little product tester! By the look of that grin, I would say that Beau very much approves of where his room is headed!
That about wraps it up for week 3, so in the meantime, here is a link to the blog party to check out all the other rooms underway! Also, don't forget to check in on the featured designers here! If you missed the last few weeks, then below is a little recap to get you up to speed.
RECAP
The one Room challenge is a 6 week room makeover challenge for designers and bloggers nationwide. There are 2 sides to this coin. One side being the 20 selected designers competing for the win. On the other side of that coin, there are guest participants like myself. At the end of this 6 week project, the editors of Better Homes & Gardens, the official media sponsor of the One Room Challenge will select 2 guest participants to be FEATURED DESIGNERS in the 2019 Spring ORC challenge!
All the fingers crossed over here...
