Houston TX | Obscure Adventures

I love to change things up and find new adventures. This Saturday we happened to be kid free and decided to go exploring in our backyard - Houston. In doing so, we searched out a couple of odd spots that poked at our creative sides. I'm pumped to bring all of that weird fun to you. From a Wonka play house to a giant head, here it is!

The Orange Show is located in Houston's east end was created by a postal worker who worked in isolation for 24 years. He created a labyrinth of walkways and arenas and dedicated it all to his favorite fruit - The Orange! He used all kinds of items from iron farm equipment to decorative tiles, all to create a wonderland of fun. It is as exciting for adults as it is for kids! This place is FREE of charge !

Smither Park is right next door to The Orange Show and it's the mosaic of all mosaics! Artists from all around curate and beautify this place constantly. It's always evolving and morphing into something different. It is a creative feast for the eyes and makes your brain kick into wonder-drive! Thousands of knick-knacks are used in the most interesting ways to create stunning works of the imagination. Angel hair in your top left happens to be all

up-cycled gold chains! As we were walking through Justin said, "I imagine that this is what your mind looks like all the time." To that I replied, "A 100% YASS!" This is also FREE of charge!

To keep this fun art vibe going, who doesn't want to see a giant (to scale) man face? Or maybe a giant fresh baby with an unclipped umbilical cord?? The artist, Ron Mucek captures raw human life in his vividly detailed creations. He has many exhibits on display at the Museum of Fine Arts, magnifying everyday normals. This rather large scale forces you to see normal in fresh new detail. The cost is $18 for adults, youth 13-18 are $13 and children 12 and under are FREE.

Exploring is hard work, so somewhere in the day one must eat right? Since you've challenged your artsy side, why not take that same challenge to your tasters with some good authentic Thai food? This is a hole in the wall spot that Justin and I found a couple years ago and love! I always get the same thing - Chicken Pad Thai, while Justin tries something new often. Above is a yellow chicken curry over rice noodles and its fantastic! We always leave more than happy! Before you leave, you must try a Thai Milk Tea - AWESOME!!!!
